Goodbye Marc… It Was Fun While It Lasted… :-(

Hello nice people,

What I love about my blog is that it really shows me that there are many good people out there. The comments I receive along with the encouragement during rough times is amazing to me. Something terrible happened to me last night and I would like to share. Maybe with my experience, it won’t happen to you.

8 pm:
Last night, I went out to dinner with Dan’s family. Since it was raining, I left Marc in the car and took my ID and credit card in my jeans pocket. While I was there, his grandmother gave me my holiday gift. I was thrilled and she told me to wait to open it on Christmas.

11:30 pm:
When I arrived back at my apartment, it was pouring down rain. I decided to leave Marc in the car so he wouldn’t get wet. I also left my gift from Dan’s grandma because there was no point in bringing it inside since I was going to take it with me home anyways. Then, I went inside with my ID and credit card still in my pocket, while holding my umbrella.

8:15 am:
This morning, I had a meeting at school. As I was walking towards my car, I could see through my back drivers-side window. I knew something was wrong. As I creeped up closer, I could see from 10 feet away that someone smashed my window in. I took a deep breath, turned around, and told myself to take deep breaths. I told myself to get my roommate, M, as quickly as possible. She was still sleeping and I told her I needed help and someone to think logically. She took my keys and walked down to my car with me.

All the necessary steps were taken (insurance, police, etc) but I doubt I’ll be seeing any of my items ever again. Many thanks goes out to M for being there to support me. I could not have survived this morning without her.

What I lost:

-Marc

- My Coach wallet from Dan
- Cash
- Dan’s grandmother’s Christmas present
- 3 gift cards
- My favorite lip gloss
- Possibly other items that I haven’t noticed yet

I am very upset but also very lucky. It could have been a lot worse. They could have taken more but they didn’t. My GPS was even in the glove compartment and the idiots completely missed that (stupid criminals!). I hope Marc is okay. I have a feeling he is homeless on the side of a street somewhere.

Anyways, my plans for the day have obviously changed. I have to clean out my car (all that glass), go get my window replaced, and find my sanity. I am so upset about my purse and the wallet. I am tempted to replace it. I don’t know anymore.

I hope your day goes better then mine,

Julie

Julie! Oh my gosh that is sooo scary! I cant believe I leave stuff in my car all the time without even a second glance. I cant believe marc is gone, thats horrible. Maybe it wasnt meant to be? The only thing that confuses me is that who steals lip gloss and stuff like that? There is probably some girl walking around with a new marc, gift cards, and shiny lips right now.

I can empathize. A few years ago my Louis was stolen why I was helping an elderly man with his groceries. My identity was stolen a long with my favorite wallet–and oh yeah, all my credit cards!

I am glad you are ok–I hope you will be able to get another Marc one day, too! :( I hope everything works out soon–I know how stressful it can be.

OMG, Julie! That’s seriously ridiculous. Do you live in a bad neighborhood? I’m so sorry that happened I know how much you loved your Marc.

I’m glad your GPS system was safe, and that obviously, you are safe, as well.

I am so sorry to hear that. I am literally almost in tears because I know how much that bag meant to you and even if you replace him it will never be the same. I wish there was something I could do for you. If I had to $ I would run out and buy you another Marc but unfortunately I don’t. How about a virtual {HUGS} and prayers that they catch the kidnappers and return Marc to his home soon.

I’m going to have to post about this today and remind everyone to be cautious especially in this economy.

I’m so sorry about this.

People are so brave now days they don’t care; I learn never to leave anything of value in the car even if for a few minutes.

But the present; gosh you didn’t even know what it was :(

If it will make you feel better, replace those items asap. And I think it will – thank goodness YOU are safe. This same thing happened to my PD, but there was nothing in her vehicle. The idiots who did it prob. saw her GPS thing mounted on her dash, but the GPS was not in the vehicle. Also happened to her b/f – his work computer was in the car! OUCH… that one really stung. Just can’t leave anything in our cars anymore. . . So Sorry this happened to you.

Julie, this breaks my heart. It is such a violating feeling to have someone break into your car or home. You just feel used and dirty.

You are such a sweet, kind person, I’m really sorry that this happened to you and Mr. Marc.

oh ya and for the future, don’t worry about getting your nice leather purses a little wet in the rain, the high quality leather won’t get spotty or ruined! I lug mine out in the rain/snow/sleet/hail, and they are perfectly fine.

I’m am sooooo sorry! You are safe and that is most important! It’s horrible to be violated like that anytime!!! And even more so at Christmas.

Thank you for sharing this horrible story. It should be a reminder to us all with the economy as it is, don’t leave valuables (but if you must, keep them out of sight) in your vehicles!

Oh sweet pea… i’m so sorry to hear this… that’s the worst feeling ever.

I’ve had my car stolen from my security garage in my old apt!!! They broke into the garage, hotwired my car… and the worst of it??? it was the day i had moved home from college for the summer and EVERYTHING i owned was in the trunk!!!!!!!!!

i was distraught and so upset. (i feel you on this)

three days later the cops called, and my car was found in a field…. best part? they didnt even LOOK in the trunk!!!!

here’s hoping you get your items back and i’m so glad that you are safe my dear.

prayers for you to feel safe and comfort.

p.s. GO GET YOURSELF A NEW PURSE AND WALLET.. A LITTLE RETAIL THERAPY IS ALWAYS HELPFUL!

Julie~ I’m SO sorry this happened to you. I know how you feel. I had my laptop and suitcase stolen from a rental car in Dallas. The suitcase had all my make-up (expensive to replace), my favorite outfit, a bracelet my sister gave me for being her maid of honor, my day planner, PLUS the laptop. I was so sick about it. Ohhh… I just feel so bad for you.

Have you contacted your insurance company to see if they’ll replace stolen the items inside the car? Sometimes they do! Sometimes it’s covered under your renters insurance policy OR if you’re on your parents insurance it could be covered under their home owners policy. Definitely check that out. I hope they do cover something. If not, go buy yourself another purse; it will make you feel better.

Oh no!! I am so very sorry this has happened to you! Smashing in windows seems to be a common crime these days as I have had two friends have to replace windows after theft. And to make it worse, it is Christmas!! Where is the Holiday loving spirit that is suppose to be filling the air? I do hope your day gets better!

Shame on that person/those people!

OH MY GOD.

I wish I was kidding when I say this is my worst nightmare.

My “baby” aka My Louis Vuitton Speedy 35 goes EVERYWHERE with me for this exact reason. I even take it in with me when I have to run in to the gas station to pay or when I go tanning. When I go grocery shopping and it’s raining, I ask for their XL bags and cover it like a puppy. It’s pretty crazy and slightly obsessive but how you’re surviving, I don’t know.

I so send you 500 bucks right now to go re buy your “baby” if I could. I am praying that the bag gods are watching over you and karma will find it’s way back to you. I am seriously heart broken for you.

But on the more rational side, I’m glad you’re okay!! And that it wasn’t worse!

I heard about this happening to another blogger, and she only left her car for a minute.

I really am so so sorry. That’s horrible.

That is just terrible, I detest thieves who steal from hard working people. Hopefully, somebody saw something and you will get your stuff back. I saw a guy in broad daylight smash a car window at the Arch in St.Louis. I ran as fast as I could towards them (what was I thinking??!)he jumped in a waiting car and they sped off but I got a description of their car and called the police. Unfortunately this doesn’t just happen during holidays, so everyone keep that in mind to -always- keep your car free of valuables. Because you never know.

My purse got stolen once and I was devestated. It’s very violating when you start to think of all the personal things you keep in your purse. I am sorry! It was a big lesson for me, and now I carry a huge bag, but everything in it is impersonal (most of the time), no pictures, few credit cards, very little makeup. Sorry the are such mean people in the world.
