Welcome to TMI (Too Much Information) Thursday’s! As LiLu always says: Join us all in humiliating the crap out of yourself every Thursday by sharing some completely tasteless, wholly unclassy, “How many readers can I estrange THIS week?” TMI story about your life. Or hell, about someone else’s!
I have been wracking my brain all week trying to come up with a TMI post for today. Luckily, at a bar one night, Lilu taught me how to do the “TMI Brainstorming Exercise.” Basically, sit still and come up with all the dirty words you can think of.
So, I tried that…
“Piss, f**k, sh*t, c*nt (I HATE THAT WORD), disgusting… etc, etc”
I’m sure there was more to the exercise than that but at the time I had about 2-3 beers in me and my tolerance level was low. Anyways…
Since I’m extremely busy and overwhelmed, this has been harder than I thought until it finally hit me about 5 minutes ago as I was getting dressed after my shower: SWEAT.
Sweat. Why is this TMI? Well, you know how some women were culturized to believe that they don’t sweat, they “glisten” or “sparkle”? Well, I’m sure somewhere down the line I was told that and it’s stuck with me ever since.
I have never been the girl-that-sweats-a-lot. In fact, growing up I would typically sweat a lot LESS than many people I know. When I played sports, it was more of a face glisten rather than full-on sweat all over my body. I am still like this… during the day.
Only during the day.
In the past 2 years-ish, I have started to notice that I sweat terribly when I sleep. Sometimes I’ll have a sweat-free night but those are infrequent. It’s embarrassing and I can’t stand it. Especially considering my relationship with Dan. Luckily, Dan is super-duper supportive and knows that I can’t help it. But there are times I’ll wake up in the middle of the night with a POOL (seriously) of sweat around me. There will be an outline of my body in a way that I only know how to sleep: far from the headboard with one of my arms over my head. It’s disgusting.
It really affects me – even tooting isn’t this bad. You know in the morning how some couples like to cuddle? Dan and I are no different. The sweat obviously can be a barrier and while he doesn’t care (or he says), I do care.
A few weekends ago during my race, my mom visited. Luckily she and I have a strong bond and I feel that I can tell her anything. I decided to bring up the “sweat issue”. As it turns out, it’s genetic and she sweats uncontrollably too. Like me, she doesn’t overly sweat during the day and it’s only at night. It’s nice to know I have someone who goes through the same thing. It’s not nice to know that since it’s genetic there’s not much I can do about it.
There is one positive though (I’m always determined to find one): I think it helps my skin stay smooth and clean. I mean, sweat pushes out dirt through your pores! After a night of sweat, I am glistening in a way that only can be natural. Oooo la la. Either way, sweating sucks at night.
Does anyone else out there experience this? Got any pointers? Any really good towel recommendations? Ha.
xoxo,
Julie

I’m a huge sweater. All the time, including night time. I’ve taken to turning down the AC, blasting the fan, and laying in as little clothes sans blanket, until I’m not only tired, I’m freezing, and I grab a lightweight blanket and go fast into dreamland. Still, I sweat in the middle of the night and often toss the blanket off and repeat this pattern again. It’s definitely not the most functional way to do this, but I haven’t heard of another solution.

Not a sweat-er at all… but I’m glad you have those that are supportive about it and love you whether you sweat or not

I’m a MAJOR sweater, and I MUST sleep in cold temperatures so I don’t wake up saturated in the morning. Unfortunately, I don’t have many suggestions – maxi pads on your feet and underarms?

Julie,
Good luck. ~Lisa
I’m not trying to sell you anything, but I run a chain of mattress stores. There is a mattress pad called “The Chili Pad” (http://www.chilitechnology.com/home.php). My Mom got one recently, she loves it. You can set it on any temp from 47-117. They’re not cheap, but if it makes you rest better, it is well worth it. They also make them with two temp controls, one for each side. Also, you’re supposed to sleep at 68 or below for room temp

I love you and your sweat. You and I are opposites. You sweat at night andbi sweat all day during the day no matter what the weather. Just moving around a little bit makes the beads start to roll.
Love you.
I always have to read these to see if your saying anything about me.

I sweat like a beast at the gym. Like, I know you’re supposed to sweat and all but seriously – it’s disgusting. After awhile I give up mopping my face off and just drip. I am gross. But it does make me feel like I’m accomplishing something. At least I don’t know anyone there.
The reason our electric bill is so high sometimes is because I don’t sleep well unless it’s slightly chilly in the room. I’ll totally sleep nekkid (sorry dan) if it’s even 72 degrees in the room. Can’t STAND it! I’d much rather bundle up in sweats & set the temp at 65.

I sweat in my sleep too. It’s bad…sometimes I have to get a beach towel to put down because the sheets are soaked. My dad had the same issue and was recently diagnosed with sleep apnea. Now that he has one of those breathing machines, he doesn’t sweat! They said the sweating was caused by his body being stressed by lack of oxygen. I’m going through sleep studies right now, actually, to see if that is my problem too. Crazy, right!?

You have to look on the bright side about this, Miss Tulip. At least you’re sweating in bed and not peeing! Right???
I do this sometimes, not all the time. I like Veggie Assassin’s view of the silver lining, though… at least you ain’t peein!
Happy TMIT!

Have you tried having a fan on in the room at night?
that picture made me step back from my computer.
Hi Little Cyber Sis. We might actually be related. Ha Ha. OH GOSH… I sweat so bad. I can’t stand it. I sweat more than most guys when I’m working out or it’s hot outside. I’ve also experienced the night sweats. It’s horrible and wakes me up. I wish I had good advice; I’m not sure what to do about it. I just keep the apt. really cold at night.

I tend to get really hot at night and maybe get a little sweat going. It doesn’t help that our dog sleeps with us and of course picks me to cuddle up next to. Even though she is like a little heater, I still get hot at night when she’s not cuddled up next to me. I have yet to wake up to a pool of sweat. During the day I can sweat like nobody’s business and I’m blaming the extra pounds on my body for that, because I don’t recall it being this bad when I was younger and not that long ago!
