Welcome to Wearing Design Week: Quarter Life Lady

Since I have a new design and a huge appreciate for a good design job on a blog, I want to do something new this week on Wearing Mascara. I want to welcome you to Wearing Design Week. What is Wearing Design Week? Well, honestly I just made it up. :-) This week I want to feature one or two designers each day. I sent them all some questions about their design and they decided how to answer them.

I love blog design. I am no designer although it would be fun to try in the future. If you have a beautiful design, I’m most likely to stay and read some of your posts (and obviously if they are not my cup of tea, I’ll leave). With that said, there are tons of beautiful designs in my very own reader. Some blog designs do not get the credit they deserve. How many times have you sat there in front of your computer screaming at the top of your lungs for your design to just work? With that said, I would like to feature some designs this week! I went through and just picked out the designs that made me happy. The ones that made me wonder, smile, and sit in awe. I also wanted to spice things up. Hopefully from this, you will find a new blog you’ll love! Maybe you’ll get some tips. Maybe you will love the design eye candy I like I do.

To kick off design week, I would like to introduce you to Quarter Life Lady!

I love this design! It’s very unique and if you visit her site, you feel an aura of coolness. :-) One my favorite parts of her design are the tabs. The different shapes really add to the design. Her content definitely matches the design very well and you will definitely stay and add her to your reader. Here are her answer’s to my questions about her design:

Why did you choose those colors?

Originally, my designer chose the colors orange and brown.  I thought that changing the orange to pink would give the site a more feminine look.  I like brown and pink together. I would choose them as my wedding colors if my boyfriend weren’t so opposed.

Why did you pick that design?

I didn’t really choose the design. My designer gave me a website of designs to look at and I chose a few of my favorites. From what I chose, he created the design.

Did you use a blog designer or did you do it yourself? Why?

I know nothing about graphic design/CSS, so I put up an ad on Craigslist and found a designer. I got many, many replies, but I eventually chose someone who lived in my area.

Do you have any advice for bloggers about their design?

If you end up hiring a designer, be sure to work with him/her to ensure you get what you really want.  Sometimes I felt bad for telling my designer that I didn’t like something he did, but eventually I realized that as long as I’m paying for his work, I need to be happy with it.  Designing is very fun…it can be a great way to show your personality on your blog!

Thank you for participating Quarter Life Lady! Everyone be sure to come back tomorrow to see who is featured next! :-)

xoxo,

Julie

A good design always keeps me coming back to the page..even if that sounds a little bit like judging a book by its cover.

Eventually I’d love to have a full-blown custom design, instead of just the header that I have. I always love looking at the different designs out there…Can’t wait to see more of what you post in the future! :)

I’ve been considering a custom design as well–this is helpful, thanks for posting! I hadn’t really considered looking on Craigslist, but it’s a great idea.

Looking great in here, lady! Though I did LOVE the orange of the previous design, I love this one too. Blue and Green are 2 of my favorite color combos!
