Hello everyone!
It is Monday which brings me to the first featured blog design of the week: Chic Runner. Danica is the Chic Runner and the blogger behind this amazing website. She recently switched platforms from Blogger to WordPress (welcome!) and her readers (including me) were in awe of her new and improved site. Her header is very her! Well, it IS her with some splotches and swirls of pink. It’s very chic, very welcoming, and very beautiful.

Here is Chic Runner describing the process in her own words:
I choose these colors because I love pink and I feel that many workout/running sites are orientated to boys, which isn’t that fun. I wanted my site to be oriented towards women and just to be about whatever I wanted to post.
I picked only the picture of the header. The designer of my site who is a creative director at the advertising agency that I work at designed it to have the brush strokes and pink and the pattern on the side. He went to school at FIDM for graphic design and is amazing at what he does. He is the creative one, not I.
I didn’t do my site myself at all. It was really hard for me to envision things to change too. I am SO not creative that it stinks! I do try to be creative though, but I had help with all the coding and placement of everything on the site. Working on codes is really hard for me so I am thankful that the guys helped out. The creative director helped me add some shadows on some things and designed the header, another guy worked on the code and made everything function.
Honestly, I think that if you want to work with the code, that’s totally up to you, but I know if I started to work on it, I would have gotten incredibly frustrated in the long term. A lot of the stuff is really hard to understand and work with, at least for me. It’s a lot of work to work through all the kinks and issues that can come up so I am really glad that I worked with others who knew what they were doing and could easily implement whatever I wanted them too. It would have been down a lot longer if it wasn’t for them. It’s not the cheapest but sometimes people have ideas that you didn’t even realize could be done, and that is a really cool feature of working with someone who knows how to build sites!
Good luck to all those designing sites!
xoxo
Thank you for sharing Danica! She brings up a good point: Working with code can be a challenge. I know this first hand! Working on Wearing Mascara has been a huge headache at times but it has been worth it. Sometimes I do wish someone could just do it all for me. You need to set your own limits and understand how much time and effort you’re willing to put forth for your blog.
In addition to Chic Runner‘s design, her content is incredible. She is an inspiration to me as a runner and says it like it is. Even if you aren’t a runner, she will appeal to you to get out there and stay healthy! All the while laughing, having fun, and living life to your fullest.
