Raccoons, DC, and Waxing Gone Wrong

Today has been such a fun-filled day. Let’s start at the beginning:

I went to work and I was a tad late. My boss didn’t seem to notice so I was in the clear. Then I worked (exciting huh?). Around 3 pm, I headed to my car before I went to meet my friend Cheryl at the National Mall. Randomly, I saw a something move in the corner of my eye. It was a raccoon! Since I was going into DC I luckily had my Nikon D40 with me! I ended up chasing the poor animal for a good 15 minutes :-)

DSC_0671I chased him, he chased me…

DSC_0677I was determined to get a good shot. I think this was the best I could do!

After stalking the raccoon I made my way to the National Mall. My friend Cheryl is visiting this week taking a class. We haven’t talked for about 3 years! It’s insane but we literally caught up right where we left off. We sat in front of the Capitol building kicking it and talking about old times. The weather was perfect with such a nice breeze. It’s such a contrast from previous years in DC when the weather was so humid that you would be soaked the minute you left indoors.

Next I went to Sticky Rice to celebrate Shawn’s birthday (pictured in the middle with Wyatt and Greg – all friends from school):

While with friends I heard an awful story from my friend Anna (do you notice anything wrong in this picture?):

It’s pretty obvious: She had a bad eyebrow waxing experience. Eek! I almost cried for her when I saw. Obviously she isn’t too happy (see her expression?). The worst part is that she knows the person who did them well. I guess she babysit’s her kids and knows her family which makes the whole experience even more awkward. She did call to complain but they just offered her “product to ease the pain and healing” but no discount or refund. Sigh. What’s a girl to do? Any advice for my buddy Anna?

Well loves, I hope you’re well. Don’t forget to enter my pasties giveaway! You have until tomorrow at 5 pm.

xx,

Julie

Oh no! Your poor friend! This has happened to me at least 5 times. The only thing to really do is ice it and put neosporin on it often. I’ve found that powder make up works well to cover it. I use Bare Escentuals or Pur. And great picture of DC!!

I feel Anna’s pain (literally!). I had the same thing happen. I am never going back to this lady! I miss my regular waxer at Nusta Spa :(

Awe!
I miss seeing raccoons. I used to see a lot of them when I lived in Ohio.
Now all I see is moose and bears.

Looked like a beautiful day in DC.
We’re hitting record highs of 80s and 90s here in Alaska. I’m loving it!

Such a cute raccoon! We had one that lived in my high school when I was a senior. Also- tell Anna to put on aloe vera and not to pick at it!! This happens to me in some form almost every time I get waxed. It’s awful!

Bless her heart! I had half of one waxed off one time. The words “Oh sh*t” are not something you want to hear during an eyebrow wax. Another time a girl waxed them down to nothing a week before a wedding (not a good time to try someone new). Oh what we do to have great eyebrows.

I can imagine you chasing that raccoon around the parking garage. Is there security cameras? A video would make a great post. LOL!!!

The same thing happened to me so I feel horrible for Anna. It hurts bad. I was on Accutane and didn’t listen to my doctor’s advice. Both of my eyelids bled like crazy (we’re talking blood actually running into my eye) and swelled up. It was bad but it was totally my fault. Luckily the eye area heals very fast so hopefully she won’t have to live with it for long.

Have a fabulous weekend!!! XOXO

that’s a terrible eyebrow wax!

I would demand that the product be given for free b/c that looks like an injury and not just a slight mishap, and call my credit card company to take the charge off – even if the business doesn’t offer a refund. Submit that picture and they’ll take it off!

Hope it heals quick!

Poor Anna! I’ve never had one quite so bad, but the person I used to go to (notice the use of the word used) would keep her wax so hot that it would burn me. I’d be red around my eyebrows for 2 days! The person I go to now is wonderful!

That’s crappy service that the place wouldn’t refund her.

Love the raccoon picture!

Oh, her poor eye! That’s such a tough call on what to do. I’d just be firm about how unacceptable it is – not personal, just not okay service, you know? Looks like you all had fun regardless, & I love your little critter pics! He’s so cute.

I am LOVING this beautiful and not too hot and sweaty weather. Normally I can’t be outside without being drenched, but it really has been beautiful lately.

There is a raccoon that lives in the street drainage by my building. From time to time I see it peek out and then go back in.

They are sooooooo cute. It’s too bad they carry crazy diseases and are batsh!t crazy!

I’m so sorry for your friend. That sucks. I hope she is putting Neosporin or something on it to try to prevent scarring :(

I finally get regular access to the internet! Julie, I’m adding your blog to my reader so I can keep better track of it.

Thanks to everyone’s sympathy and empathy about my eye wax! Luckily by now it is entirely healed. I’m surprised at how many people have had similar experiences!
