Lip issue

Hello sweet blogosphere,

This evening, I write this post in a plea. I am looking for advice or for someone who has had the same experience as me. It’s a health-related issue. Do the corners of your lips ever crack? Painfully? And chapstick doesn’t ever work? If so, please keep reading. If not, you can stop and come back tomorrow (unless you have a friend with a similar issue).

All of my life, I have had issues on the corners of my lips. The crack painfully. It’s not anything that chapstick can cure and believe me, I’ve tried everything. Growing up, my mom and I went to many doctors and they would recommend things like cortisone cream (I think that’s what it’s called), B-complex vitamins, more vitamins, herpes medicine etc. NOTHING has consistently worked. Recently, I talked to the nurse at the school where I work, and she recommended B-complex vitamins. I know I’ve tried this in the past, but I went ahead and tried again. I took one and the next day, the cracks went down. So, I’ve been taking them every night. However, today, my lips broke out again. It’s a damn painful process. Luckily, it doesn’t happen all the time, but enough that it bothers the hell out of me. When it happens, I avoid makeup on my lips and really play up my eyes so no one will notice.

Does anyone out there have a similar problem? Is there a special medicine or treatment that works?

Thanks for reading! Hopefully someone out there has similar experiences.

xx,

Julie

i do not get cracks in the corners of my mouth, BUT i used to get horrible chapped lips. just terrible – they would bleed & it hurt so badly i would cry!

then i discovered aquaphor by eucerin. it’s totally amazing. sort of a vaseline-like texture, but it seriously healed my lips and made them so soft! i don’t have the chapped lips problem anymore, but i still use this stuff because its awesome!

Old School Vaseline, I have the big ‘ole tubs. Before you go to bed put some (more then less) on your lips-corners for you especially….also before work outs, lips tend to be licked and dry while working out so keeping them extra moist will prevent chapping, cracking, pain….
*side note-works on cracked heels too! Apply before bed put a thick sock on, sleep and wake up with soft(er) feet!!! :)

I’m with Jenn… Aquaphor! When I was on accutane and EVERY part of my body was dry and cracked, I put this on my lips (plus in the corners), my knuckles, and even the little place where my earlobe connects to the side of my head (is there a name for that??). If you’ve tried everything, I’m guessing you probably already tried aquaphor though :) Good luck! I know that cracked lip corners completely SUCK!

I have problems with my lips, too, that no one seems to know what it is, it’s different than yours but what I’ve found that helps is Blistex medicated lip ointment. It’s in a little white tube with a red stripe(comes in a red box). At first the cooling sensation was strange but I’ve gotten used to it & it has helped my lips so much! Give it a try, I don’t know if it will help but I just know it’s the only thing that worked for me :)

PS- There’s also neosporin lip treatments now & they work pretty good, too!

OMG. I have written about it a little on my blog that I got a staph infection on my face on spring break my JR year of HS. And it wasn’t an STD, so thanks for asking (whoa, defensive much).

But a year or two after that, I had an outbreak exactly like you are describing. My mom (completely coincidentally) had the same outbreak at the same time.

Turns out it’s an infection – and I actually can’t remember now if it’s a fungal infection or a yeast infection.

But I would def make an appointment during an outbreak – I honestly can’t remember but I think she actually asked her dentist who wrote her a prescription, but it may have been a derm or a regular doctor.

Either way, it’s a medical condition, esp if you are having recurring outbreaks, and it can be helped a lot with a topical medication. If I can find out what the prescription is called I’ll let you know!

Hope this helps!! And I’m sorry – having pain in your face and lips is the WORST. I know from experience, girlfriend. {{HUG}}

Try Lysine. I take it before I get a cold sore. Ya know when you can feel it coming on? Or whenever I bite my mouth and it blisters. I don’t see why it wouldn’t help lip cracking. It works for everything else mouth related!

My lips are constantly chapped, but I don’t really crack at the edges… The only suggestion I have is to drink a bunch of water.. usually helps a bit. And carmex. Lots of carmex.

I feel your pain. Literally. The best thing that works for me for the cracks in the corners are Denavir and Zovirax. As soon as I feel the first sign of tingliness I put it on. It may worth trying one or both of these. Good luck!

I have this problem too, although I do not think as seriously as you. For me, nearly constant application of lip balm to the corner where it cracks does the trick. It is a super annoying and painful problem; I hope you find relief! And, if you do, please blog about it so I can know in case mine gets worse!

I recommend Dr Weil lip balm that you can find at an Origins counter or at origins.com. My lips get so dry they crack and bleed. I recommend this kind.
