Okay. I’m so ashamed, I can’t even look at you, reader, right now.
Last night, I did something completely and utterly against who I am. Here’s a text message between Dan and I to illustrate what I did:
Me: If I tell you what I’m doing, do you promise not to break up with me?
Dan: Well, that sounds promising.
Me: I’m reading Twilight. Ahhh I’m so ashamed!!!!
Dan: ……………..
Me:
Dan: If you… I can’t… I don’t even want you to look at me with those filthy eyes.
Me: lol.
Dan: Blastphemous.
Me: What does that mean?!
Dan: It goes against everything I believe in.
Me: Oh, whatever.
Dan: Well, I hope you like it.
Me: Thanks
I love you.
Dan: And I hope your new boyfriend likes it.
Me: Whatever.
Yes, folks. I am reading Twilight. When I’m finished, I’ll go onto New Moon. WHO AM I? I never thought I’d get on any type of pop culture book train. I never read Harry Potter and have never been obsessed with a series before. So far, the book is decent enough. I think I need to get further into the story to fully appreciate it. I’ll let you know what I, the skeptic, really think of the books when I’m done.
The reason I started reading them was that my co-worker sat me down yesterday and really promoted the books to me. She said she was a skeptic (I mean, why would she be interested in teenager vampires?!), but she loves them. So, after that conversation (and finding out that they were on sale for $5 at K-Mart), I bought the books.
So, we’ll see how I feel about them.

You’re sadly going to love them way too much. I was quite hesitant as well, but am a complete addict. My boyfriend just laughs at me now. In fact, he got us reserved seats at a new theater to see New Moon on Friday! (mind you, it serves booze, so I’m sure that’s why he was willing to go…..)
I haven’t been sucked in… yet! I actually own the first two books, but after all the Twi-mania kicked up I guess I lost the desire to read them. LOL Let me know how they are though, maybe I’ll pick ‘em up one of these days…

not gonna lie, i started twilight about a week ago after having a dream about a vampire. i know. weird. I read it in like two days. Just finished New Moon. Netflixed Twilight the movie. Have plans on going to see New Moon in a few weeks. I was so anti-twilight for so long but now? i’m totally hooked.

*Sigh* However, I can’t judge too much because I read Twilight as well – I wanted to see what the hype was about. (However, I could barely get through the book because it was so poorly written).
Haha, love the text convo!

I’m SO glad you’re reading them… as an official member of the official #TwilightPosse you know I approve. While I am wont to fall for over-hyped, commercialized literature, I did NOT want to get into Twilight. In fact, a friend bought me the books and I was so bitchy I sold them on eBay!
Obviously you know how this story turns out…

Ahhh, I read the first one and totally could not get into it. Hope you enjoy them since you made the investment!

We were all skeptics, now we’re Twihards. It’s silly how addicting it is, I swear there is some hidden hyponetic message incripted in there somewhere, don’t be ashamed, we all are right there with you!

Finally.. the one other person in the world who never read Harry Potter! My roommates are going to the midnight showing of New Moon. Be sure to let us know what you think… maybe I will become a converted skeptic as well!

Ha!
Welcome to the dark side Julie.
Mwahahahaha!!!!!!!!!
I didn’t think I’d read it either, but I got sucked right into it when I finished a book at work and a co-worker shoved the book in my face.
*Sigh*
I liked it though.

You had better hurry up. You’ve got two books and a movie to watch before New Moon comes out on Thursday. And they are definitely worth it.

ohhh nooo.. not you, too!!?? i hate the whole twilight trend, unfortunately
i watched about 30 seconds of the movie and that was enough for me!
your text convo with dan was hilarious, though!
i suppose i still love you… ::sigh::

OMG, in the spring of 08′, I was student teaching middle school English. My 7th grade girls would come in with this book and would read it every free chance they got. Seeing that 7th graders actually were reading, I was curious to know what this phenomenon was all about, and they were like, “Miss Belle, Miss Belle, you soooooo have to read these books. They’re about vampires, but they are sooooooo good. Really you have to read them.” I was like I’m not reading any teen books about vampires. But last Fall, a friend of mine convinced me to read Twilight since she photoshopped her face on Bella’s for her FB profile pic; because, Twilight, the movie, was coming out. I thought I’d give it a try, and omg, I’m not even kidding, I read each book in one day right after the other. I was hooked. I can’t wait to see the New Moon. Hopefully, you’ll like the books too=)

You are going love it and probably way too much. The books are so good. Twilight movie was okay but I have high hopes New Moon tomorrow!
I haven’t done the Twilight thing, but I felt the same way about Harry Potter at first — why would I be interested in a children’s book? My roommates loved them, my best friend loved them, and I just wouldn’t take their recommendations. But then I discovered my grandmother reading, and loving, the first book… and she only reads true classics. This is an 87 year old woman with Shakespeare’s complete works MEMORIZED. So I figured if it was good enough for her, it was good enough for me!
I am pretty sure she will never, ever read Twilight though, so I don’t think I’m jumping on that bandwagon.

WOAH-I had the same convo with my gal pals last night “oh you need to read them, you’ll love it….yadda yadda yadda”…I’m still not convinced. I was totally “off the boat: with Harry Potter-still never read any of the books but LOVED LOVED LOVED the movies (shocking for sure!)….you’ll have to let me know how Twilight goes….
It’s nothing to be ashamed about. Secretive maybe… I kid, I kid! I haven’t read them, even thogugh everyone says I should. I’m just not into vampires or teen agnst enough to pick them up. Let us know how they are since clearly a bunch of us are resisting.

JULIE CATHERINE. i am so ashamed of you. EVERYBODY who is anybody knows that True Blood beats the ca-rap out of Twilight. Both the books and the series. It’s way more gory, sexual, raunchy, scary, etc.
There isn’t even ONE sex scene in Twilight. I rest my case.
<3 your frisky little sister
Welcome to the addiction, my friend! I’m so excited that you’re finally reading them. I think you’ll get through the first book really fast. I can’t wait to hear what you think. I love the conversation you had with Dan about it…haha
After almost a year, I finally convinced one of my besties to read it. She went to Boston over the weekend and read it on the train. She loves it now.

I read all 4 books after my friends all bugged the crap out of me to do so. The first one was decent so, in true Erin style – I had to read the others (I cannot not read a sequel to something, I need to know how things end). The 2nd book took me FOREVER to get into but, about 1/2 through, it was tolerable. The 3rd book wasn’t as bad but the 4th book was ENOUGH ALREADY. I think the idea was decent but, the author could have made them much shorter and I would have been much happier with the experience!!!

I haven’t read them either but I’ve been thinking about them. Let me know what you think and then I may just have to bite the bullet and fall to the peer pressure. LOL!!

OMG, YAYAY! Welcome to the club!
I’m jealous though that you bought yours for $5! I don’t even want to remember how much I bought mine for. At the time it was like heck, I’d pay $100 for Twilight if I had to!
I wish I could swipe my memory of it and read it all over again… *swoons*

I like to refer to those books as paperback crack. I read all of them in a week, but I was also unemployed and quite antisocial that week.

I read the first book, but couldn’t do the second. Twilight was just too, I don’t know, bad?
You are definitely going to love them WAYYY too much…I started them in the summer right before the movie came out and became absolutely ADDICTED! I ended up reading them when I was on a family vacation, and was so sad to learn that I was reading them at the same time as my 10 and 12 year old cousins haha. Enjoy!!
