Relatives to family

You know those extended relatives that you may see once or twice every two years? Those relatives that you kinda know? Well, for me, I had some relatives in that exact category and since moving to Pittsburgh, they are now some of my favorite family members who I can rely on for anything.

As most of you know, I’m terrible with transitions. Moving to Pittsburgh was tough and I missed my boyfriend. It’s getting much easier with the help of my family. When my Great Aunt Joyce found out I was moving here, she called me within a month of my moving date. She always leaves me the sweetest voicemail’s leaving me all the details of a dinner or an event that’s planned. Aunt Joyce is married to my Great Uncle Ernie (he’s my grandma’s TWIN brother!) and they have two kids (adults now!) Herman and Andy. Herman is married to Staycee and I love them all so dearly.

So now, about every week they will let me know of their plans for the week. Usually, we’ll have a Sunday night dinner or go to a restaurant during the week. They’ve invited me into their nitch and I couldn’t be more thrilled. I’ve gotten to know them rather than kinda know them at family reunions. I’ve also hung out with my Aunt Cindy and cousin Adam too. I don’t know what I would do without family close by.

When I moved to Pgh to go to college, I lived with my great aunt and uncle in Greentree. I was super nervous at first, because they were some relatives that I only KIND OF knew from family reunions, like you mentioned… but it ended up being one of the best years of my life, and I feel like I got a whole new family because of living with them. Congrats on your new family!

I’m so glad you have good family close by to help take care of you.

I also love that you have a black cousin.

And I love reading your blog.

That is all.

So wonderful when “distant” family become so close (literally and figuratively).

How fabulous that you have family you can count on there. Moving to a new place can be so scary!
