Boy, oh boy, I had a quite a weekend! To preface this, let me remind you where I am right now. In the DC-metro area, specifically Northern Virginia. Yes. The place that got about 22 inches of snow on Saturday.
After the Henna party, I was so excited for Prianka’s wedding! Friday night, Dan and I went to Pri and Brad’s rehearsal dinner at a wonderful Indian restaurant. The food was amazing and the company was even better!
Dan and I
Prianka (um, I LOVE her sari!) and friends
So, as I prefaced this, as soon as the rehearsal dinner was over, it was already snowing hard. Honestly, it was a little scary driving home. At this point, Dan and I had decided against getting a hotel room for the wedding because we could just get a taxi later for cheaper than a hotel room.
We woke up Saturday morning to SO MUCH snow! On one perspective, it was quite lovely and the perfect day to stay in and be cozy. However, Dan and I had a wedding to attend. A wedding of one of my good friends and a wedding where Dan was a groomsman (and had to be there by 12:30!). Quickly, we booked a hotel room, which was the best decision we made all day.
And then, our journey to Tyson’s Corner (where the wedding was) began. Dan lent me some of his shoes because I stupidly left snow shoes in Pittsburgh and all I had were my running shoes, heels, and Uggs. We threw all our stuff into his car, and against our better judgement, starting driving in his small car.
That’s about the time that Dan lost his iPhone. Hmm… where was it? We looked everywhere. We drove back and Dan looked throughout the snow. It was nowhere to be seen. Sigh. Goodbye, Dan’s iPhone, it was lovely knowing you for all this time.
Where were we? Oh driving away in the blanket of snow.
We couldn’t even LEAVE his neighborhood because we got stuck. After several tries, we just kept getting more stuck. Then, some nice neighborly folks came to our rescue to pull us out using their big SUV. They hooked us up from behind and pulled. Then…
CRASH.
While the dude was pulling us out, our car didn’t stop and crashed backwards into this SUV. Luckily, the dude’s SUV was fine but Dan’s car was not. His bumper and rear lights were out. It was just a terrible situation all around.
Oh and it as about 12:15 when this happened. Don’t forget: Dan should be at the wedding by 12:30.
At this point, I start balling my eyes out – I couldn’t control it. Car accidents have that effect on me in which I can’t control even if it’s a small accident. Somehow, we made it back to Dan’s house and as soon as I walked in the door, I poured myself a glass of wine. I never drink in the afternoon unless there’s a specific event that it’s appropriate for. I needed it. Then, I had a piece of chocolate. I just sat there, drinking my blackberry wine, eating this perfect piece of chocolate that resembled a wedding cake that we got the night before, and cried my eyes out. Finally, my emotional sadness and stress was released and I could focus on how to get to the wedding.
Luckily, Dan’s roommate, Peter, has a big Ford truck. He, his girlfriend, Erin, Dan, and I piled in the truck and he drove us all to the wedding. Even in the truck, the driving conditions were not good. At this point, I wasn’t worried about us driving poorly, but of other people. Little cars were stuck everywhere and it wasn’t fun.
FINALLY, we made it to the hotel. We checked in and I let Erin get ready with me in our hotel room. Our first order of business was to jump on the hotel bed – especially after the day we had.

We definitely felt better after that!
Once we were at the hotel, life was much easier
We rushed around getting ready and then someone told us that the news was here for the wedding. I guess they caught on that despite the snow, there was a wedding moving forward
As we were getting ready, we had the news on listening for updates – it was pretty neat.

The wedding set-up
The bride walking in

The news! My camera didn’t the best pictures – the lighting was terrible and I had my little canon.
How beautiful is this cake?!
Dan and I – safe and sound at the reception
What my henna looked like at the wedding. It started fading on the arm. I wonder how long it will last?
I hate that my nail polish chipped!
Friends, bride, bridesmaids
During the reception, the bride and bridesmaids did a traditional dance:
Then the groom and groomsmen:
Regardless of the weather, the wedding was so much fun and I was happy to witness Prianka and Brad tie the knot. I say that phrase literally because during their ceremony, they actually tied a knot to symbolize their commitment.
Yesterday morning when we got back to Dan’s house, this is what my car looked like. A little, “under the weather,” don’t ya think?

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and weren’t snowed in!
It’s time for me to run errands and pack in preparation for our trip to St. Louis in a couple days.
Much <3,
Julie

I used to get henna done all the time when I lived in Oregon. Hands are a tough place to have it stick because you wash your hands so frequently. I imagine it will be mostly gone by the end of the week. I’ve had henna done on my ankle that has lasted up to 2 to 3 weeks, but it usually starts to fade once you hit 1 week.
