Totally glo-ing, happy taste buds

Hi everyone!

I made it back to Pittsburgh safely and trust me, I will never complain about “cold” 25-30 degree weather again. After living in DC for so long, I forgot how cold it can get in Pittsburgh and Ohio. It’s about 10 degrees lower It really messes with my head and not to mention my runs! I haven’t run since Saturday (it was an AWESOME run!) and I need to get back into my groove tomorrow. I just can’t figure out if I should brave the weather or stick to the treadmill. Hmmm…

Anywho, I told you that I would review the Glo Bars that I ordered recently. Do they have the Wearing Mascara seal of approval?! YES. Most definitely!

Here’s some background:

Glo Bakery, located in Milton, Ontario, is the first original vegan health bar bakery, featuring an entire menu of delicious, vegan, all natural and healthy Glo Bars.” From the Glo Bakery website.

Now that you know what the website says, here’s my take on it. Angela Liddon is the mastermind behind these bars and I found out about them through her blog, Oh She Glows. In 2008, this girl decided that she wasn’t amused by her stressful job and instead followed her dreams to open up an all-vegan bakery in her own kitchen. How’s that for inspiration? Follow your dreams. Do what makes you happy!

Since I love her blog so much (she is one of the bloggers who has inspired me to live a healthy life-style and not obsess about food so much), I was sure I’d love her bars too.

When they arrived, I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect.

I ordered the Holiday Pack which included a Heaven, Revive, Present, Classic, and Empower (2 of each). I also ordered 10 Refresh bars because I thought they would be super yummy because of the mint and chocolate combination.

The first thing I noticed was the cute packaging (see above). Angela takes her time to package them so cute and neatly in the box. There was also crinkled green paper along with her business card. When I picked up a bar, I realized how SOFT it was! Not like some bars that are hard and not chewy at all.

I haven’t tried ALL the flavors yet, but so far, I’m in love. My favorite, by far, is Refresh (I knew it!). There’s the perfect amount of mint and chocolate. Enough to make you satisfied but not too much that makes you think you’re eating dessert. I also like the Classic Glo Bar – it was very decadent. I ate it after a run and saved half for later. Later, the half was exactly what I needed! You don’t always have to eat the WHOLE bar :-)

Another thing I love about Glo Bars is the ingredient list. You can easily read and understand what goes into each bar.

The only downside is shipping costs. Since she’s shipping from Canada, the costs can be high. But, I plan to share my next batch with Julianne. Then shipping will be so much less! Also, make sure to follow her blog because she will have occasional sales!

Recently, Angela introduced the Healthy Resolutions Fit Pack with a new flavor: Crave (which boast peanut butter and “jelly”!). I’m sure I’ll be ordering that pack in the very near future :-)

All in all, I am THRILLED to have finally found a bar I actually want to eat and crave. My taste buds are happy, my stomach is satisfied and I want more. Usually, I just eat nutrition bars because there are no other choices. Not anymore. I’m so happy I ordered them! You should definitely try these babies out. You will not be disappointed.

Oh! Dan liked them too :-) That’s a huge plus :-)

I hope you have an excellent night! Who’s watching the Biggest Loser this season? I am but I DVRed tonight to save for the weekend. Tonight I was super busy refining my resume and cover letter for *gasp* job hunting.

hugs!

Julie

I won’t even walk outside let actually run outside. This cold weather is killing me. I ran seven miles today on the treadmill and was just wishing the weather would get nice again :(

Yum yum those look yummy!!

I am watching Biggest Loser – I’m totally into it… even though I think the show is trying to push the limited by having HUGE massive people on the show – not really sure how safe that is….

Oh, I’m definitely watching The Biggest Loser! I was telling my Dad the other night that I really wish they would show more of what they eat – like I’d be curious to watch an episode of how they had to adapt eating the 1st day and week – did they cheat or not, that kind of thing.
