Hello, hello!
Whew – what a great, cold, and fun weekend! Every Labor Day, my family meets at a camp where the culture is so relaxed and we go there to have a great time as a family. While there, we hiked, swam, did crafts, drank wine, chilled, ate, and biked. Is there anything better in life? I think not.
I got there around 8:30 on Friday night. Everyone in my family drove in at about a 3 and a half hour radius from different areas. I drove from the east, Dan from DC, and the rest of my family from Ohio. By the time I arrived, we were all zonked! We passed out super early that night to prepare us for the weekend.
Saturday morning, we got up, had breakfast and decided on a morning hike. We decided on a difficult hike that we were all familiar with. My mom, sister Val, sister Mel, and myself headed out to hike up Mt. Davis which is the highest point in Pennsylvania. It’s gorgeous! That morning was very cold and windy which, in my opinion, was perfect weather for our goal.
Pre-hike picture:
Melanie waiting for us to take pictures… yes, our family likes to take a ton!
The first part of our hike was to climb up this hill. In the winter, this turns into an awesome sled riding hill. For now, it’s just a hill from hell. It doesn’t look that difficult, but believe me it is!
My mom and I pre-hill… all smiles
Valerie:
My mom and I:
Whew! We made it to the top! The only thing is that the rest of the hike was a slow incline. The hike just began!
Post-hill:
Melanie leading the way:
Sister’s… sister’s…
We made it to Mt. Davis! I wish the sign said something like, “Congrats! You made it up the hill!” But, sadly, it doesn’t.
A road to the look-out:
I love my trusty camel back
The look-out tower!
Here is a video I shot of walking up the tower… considering I’m a little bit afraid of heights, it’s a scary climb!
The wind was very strong and it definitely messes up the audio on the movie. Hopefully you’ll get the point though!
The tower:
Ahh, one of my favorite views
Time to walk down…
My mom and I:
Yes, I’m lame… Dan + Julie carved into a bench…
Sisters youngest to oldest:
On the way back from hiking, I decided to run back to the cabin. It was such a lovely day for a run! Melanie ran with me too which made it so much better!
More tomorrow! For now, I need to go to sleep! Another big day tomorrow
Hey, at least it will be Tuesday and we’ll have a 4-day week!
