So here’s the thing…
Recently, I’ve been going back and forth about having Blogher as my advertising network. Honestly, I don’t make that much from it (although, it helps!), but I like being a part of an advertising network because of the community.
My beefs with Blogher all lie within their policy on reviews. If an outside company contacts me to do a review of a product, my hands are tied because I can’t do the review on my blog. I can add it to a review page (which I have at the top of my blog) that doesn’t have their advertisements, but that’s such a pain in the behind. Ideally, I’d like everything (including reviews!) to be in one place.
Besides Google Ads (which I’ve tried before and I’m not a fan), I really don’t have many options! I would love to have a network like Foodbuzz, but since I don’t blog about my food often, it wouldn’t work for me.
I wish there was a blog network that focused on just healthy living in general, because my blog would fall into that category.
Is anyone else in the same boat? Have you given up Blogher in order to do more reviews? Do you have other advertising network suggestions?

I totally hear ya. I have FoodBuzz up because my life does revolve around food a lot, but at first, I was hesitant because it seems like 90% of posts is asking a lot. The whole reviewing bit is annoying too b/c every time someone offers me a product for review, I first have to clear it through the Editorial Dept at FoodBuzz first.
The focus of my blog is about my life in general, but thankfully I eat a lot and am interested in food/drinks.
Anyway, good luck with this! I don’t really make money from my blog either.

The only thing I can suggest is to do your own ads, ala Kyla. It gives you more control over the money you get because they are paying for space, not for click-throughs. You might want to open yourself up to that option and see how it goes. If you’re not making that much money from ad networks, then it would make sense to try something new.

I swear I was just thinking about this earlier. My industry blog would do well with ads, I just have no idea where to start. That would aggravate me about the reviews! Good luck.

That’s interesting. I didn’t even know that you could do that. Do you make any money off of that? It seems nice when you can review things you like and not have to worry about not being allowed to. It might just depend if it makes enough money to be worth it or if you could even go out on your own sponsors?

I didn’t realize this was a BlogHer policy – that’s annoying! But I hate Google ads & decided I really couldn’t do it anymore. I’ve just gone adless…

I feel your pain completely! Healthy living, amen! I don’t want to always post about food… only sometimes!
