Lancaster food and family

Help! I’m surrounded by boxes, clothes, and my insanity. :-)

I seriously hate moving. It’s the absolute worst transition for me. New job? Cool. New location? Awesome. Packing up and moving everything I own? I’d rather eat rocks (like on My Strange Addition). At some point, I’m sure I’ll have a nervous breakdown while sitting among all of my stuff. Luckily, I’ve gotten rid of a lot of crap that I don’t need. I really try to be simple and only hold onto things that I need¬†or have used in the past year. It feel so nice to get rid of everything clogging my apartment and my life.

Anyways… my dad stopped by Thursday night to stay over. Originally, he was on his way to Philly to visit some friends. By the time he arrived in Lancaster, he decided to turn back around to head home to Ohio. We did get some brief visiting time in, though.

We planned lunch with my 16-year old cousin Cassie and my Aunt Vicki (my dad’s sister). We went to Loxley’s (see my previous review here).

I <3 my cousin. For a 16-year old, she has a good head on her shoulders. She’s smart, awesome, and has so much ahead of her! I remember when I was 16 and felt clueless. She’s definitely ahead of the game. I lectured her for 10 minutes on finances and she told me she already had a savings account. So proud! :-)

I just love this restaurant for the outdoor seating. There’s so many tables that I’ve never had a problem being seated outside! I feel like most restaurants have limited patio seating and it’s luck of the draw whether or not you can sit there.

A restaurant with an actual tree house is the greatest idea ever.

Awhile ago, when I first moved here, I bought a Groupon deal for a very nice restaurant in Marietta, PA called Josephines.

Since I’m moving soon, I invited my best Lancaster buddy/co-worker/partner-in-crime, Laura. Three cheers for girl time!

The bread was fantastic! Just out of the oven and it tasted homemade.

Gorgeous greens with an onion vinaigrette.

I ordered the short ribs which were to. die. for.

Laura had the crab cakes. I’m not a fan of crab (I’ve tried to like it many times!), but tasted it. I could tell how people who like crab would adore this dish! Laura ate it right up. Yelp reviews indicated that the best crab cakes in this area are from this restaurant…

The best part of the meal was the ice cream. I scream for Josephine’s ice cream! Oh yes. We ordered the sampler which was (in order): Caramel, chocolate, and coconut. They had fancier names than that, but I can’t remember them :-) My favorite was the chocolate. It was heavenly…

I highly recommend Josephine’s as a nice evening out. It was expensive, but completely worth it!

A couple things before I sign off on this post. I need to document that I felt the earthquake in Lancaster, PA. I was in a training and the whole room shook! We all looked around at each other, completely startled and confused… I never thought I’d ever be in an earthquake! :-)

Off to pack some more…

Hey there Julie – I am native Lancastrian (is that a word?) and I have not been to Loxleys or Josephines. Both look great!

Sounds awesome! Also, you look so much like your dad! But, you know, in a feminine way. :) I’ve always wished I looked like either of my parents.

We got engaged at Josephines! I’m bummed, they aren’t open on our anniversary, I was thinking about going up to Lancaster for the weekend! It’s so good – the ribs and the ice cream were both TDF!

OH MY! What a small world :-) The ice cream is so TDF!
