Visitors, the sexy librarian look, and new shoes

Hello, Hello!

I have some very random things to share today.

Visitors

I am so excited for this week! Not just because it’s Thanksgiving (and I get three days off), but because I’m having visitors! First, my girl KK from DC is coming. She’s driving through Cleveland on her way up north to visit her family in Canada. The last time I saw her was in Atlantic City!

Also, my little sissykins, Valerie, is coming home for the holidays from Chicago. I haven’t seen her since Labor Day, which is too long in my book.

Hair aka, how I make myself look like a sexy librarian

I am obsessed with a specific way to do my hair. My hair is long, but it’s thin so when I put it in a bun, it unfortunately isn’t as thick as I want it (TWSS). Basically, I discovered a way to use a sock to make a full bun. See this video for a quick how to. Although, she is doing the “advanced” version, I usually just wrap the ends around and secure it with another elastic. If you Google “sock bun” you will find a ton of how-to’s.

The best part? A spot for my pen which comes in handy on the days I feel like I’m running around with my head cut off and just want to feel like a sexy librarian.

Healthy Living (yoga + running)

First and foremost, exercise and healthy living has been on my mind recently. The truth is I haven’t been as good to my body in the past few months. Mostly because I’ve been taking care of another part of my health: my emotional health. Any time I receive an invitation to be social and merry, I do. That typically involves food and drinking… two activities I love, but they aren’t doing much for my physical health. That’s why I need to buckle down and work on my physical well-being and find balance.

I admit, I haven’t been going to Bikram regularly. I fell off the wagon and it’s mostly because the studio is in Shaker Heights, which is a long haul from Lakewood. I don’t want to give it up completely, so I need to go to that studio at least once a week. In the meantime, I plan to try out some {new to me} exercise classes that I bought Groupons for as well as a hot yoga studio that’s literally around the corner from me. They have Bikram-Style classes as well as other types of yoga to choose from.

In addition to yoga, I want to get back into running, especially since the weather is cooler. You may recall that I love cold weather running, maybe because I’m crazy or maybe because I grew up in cold weather (regardless, I still hate snow).

Earlier this month, I went to Second Sole in Rocky River, which is a {new to me} running store that comes highly recommended by some bloggers. I bought the Nike Zoom Structure Triax+ 15 Shield Running Shoe, which seemed like a good idea at the time. I normally go for Brooks, but I bought them because they are good for all-weather running.

I ended up taking these on two 20-minute runs around Lakewood. On each run, within 10 minutes my toes became numb. I did not tie them too tight either, so something was off. After debating back and forth on Twitter, I decided to call Second Sole and explain my situation. Talk about excellent customer service! They told me to bring in the shoes for a possible exchange. Since they had been worn, they needed to see how used they were. I wasn’t expecting much because stores normally don’t exchange used shoes, but Second Sole really seemed to care about my well-being. Once they saw the condition of the shoes, they let me exchange them for Brooks Adrenaline GTX’s.

I love, love, love these shoes! I haven’t taken them for a spin yet, but I know I’ll love them. My toes have so much more room than the Nike’s and don’t they just look cooler? :-)

That’s it for now!

(Don’t worry, Lindsay and Crystal, I promise to blog about pizza tomorrow!). :-D

xoxo,

Julie

I so want to do that with my hair!!! It looks so cute! I don’t think my hair is quite long enough yet though. It’s only a little bit past my shoulders.

You may be able to pull it off!

I had a similar experience. I went to New Balance, bought shoes, my toes went numb! They gave me a full refund and then I went to Second Sole and got Mizuno’s instead :)

I remember that twitter convo about running shoes :) Really should try this sock bun thing too. Enjoy your 3 day week :)

I want to try a sock bun so badly, but my hair isn’t quite long enough. Le sad.
