Arepas and Garlic Sauce

Hi friends!

You know what’s crazy?! This is my 800th post! Geez louise, where does the time go?

{source}

I’m typing to you, live, from my apartment with the windows wide open and people yelling across the street lots of profanity, which makes me miss DC. Well, Silver Spring, MD, where I lived, but you get what I mean. I live in Lakewood, OH now, in a pretty quiet area, so I really hope the people across the street read my blog and SHUT UP. People are trying to blog sleep! Sheesh.

Anyways.

How are you? Did you have a good day? I did! Well, I tried to, anyways. Sometimes, I start my day with the best intentions. I try and not let small things at work or my personal life get to me, but it’s a real hard thing to do, you know? I like to think that some personal characteristics come natural to some people, and to others (like me), it takes work. For me, personally, it takes a lot of work to focus on myself and not let things get to me. When I struggle, I like to look towards inspirational quotes for guidance. That’s why I started ending some of my posts with a Quote of the Day. I hope you enjoy it, because it makes me feel good to put positive energy out in the world.

Okay, enough deep thoughts.

**********

Tonight, I met my buddies Michelle and Katrina at Barroco Grill, which is a Colombian place in Lakewood. It’s one of my new favorite places, thanks to a Groupon deal awhile back. It’s becoming my go-to spot for random dinners and I’ve recommended it a ga-zillion times. It’s budget friendly too. You can definitely have a meal for $10 or less!

Barroco Grill is located on Madison Avenue and is very easy to miss. It’s a small establishment with street parking only. When you walk in, you may be fooled at first because it looks small and quaint. But if you keep walking, you will run into a dining area in the back. That’s where I’ve sat the last couple times. Before that, I didn’t even know there was a back dining room! Haha.

So far, I’ve ordered four dishes: Chicken Arepas, Pork Arepas, Cheesy Corn, and their Black Bean Soup. If it’s your first time there, try the Arepas! They are pretty awesome, although I prefer the chicken over the pork. That’s just my personal preference. With each Arepa, you get a choice of a side dish. What I typically do is order fries with my meal and take some black bean soup to go, because it’s phenomenal.

I order fries because of their sauces. I’m a huge fan of dipping and their sauces don’t disappoint. My favorite is the garlic. I’ve told several people that I could drink it straight from the bottle. But really, try all of their sauces and let me know which one you like best.

We shared the Cheesy Corn which was recommended by Twitter.

Holy moly… It was cheesy deliciousness. I just wish they had extra corn dippers. They did not provide us with enough for all of the cheese! When we asked for more, they said it would be $4 extra.

My Pork Arepa was good, but I missed the chicken. I was trying to be different and go against what I usually order. Oh well… I’m ordering chicken next time! See the white sauce on my plate? It’s the garlic sauce… I couldn’t even wait until I got a picture before piling that stuff on.

Please do yourself a favor and go to Barroco Grill. This place is unique, friendly, fun, and tasty.

{Disclaimer: I’m not a “foodie” or an “food writer.” I am simply a girl on a budget who enjoys a cheap beer as well as gourmet pizza. The appreciation for a good place to eat comes from whether or not I leave with a smile on my face. I have no clue what spices went into my chicken tikka masala, nor can my palate detect a specific type of vegetable in a chili. I can, however, tell you if it was a damn fine meal and whether I’ll go back. This is my version of a restaurant review.}

I still have to use my Groupon for this place. I’ve only had arepas one other time and it was really good, so I’m looking forward to trying it. I love having dipping sauces to choose from.

Congrats on 800 posts!
