Shakeology Three Day Cleanse

Shakeology Basics

Today, I’m going to share with you my Shakeology review and 3-day cleanse results.

At the end of November, I started drinking Shakeology. I drank it once a day and as a meal replacement. For me, that meal was usually breakfast since it worked best with my schedule. Shakeology is unlike any meal replacement shake I’ve ever had. In the past, I’ve tried products like Slim Fast, which honestly taste like chalk after the third day.

Shakeology is the only meal replacement shake that not only has a wonderful nutritional profile, but also tastes delicious. There are a variety of ingredients you can add and recipes you can make and all you need is ice and a blender. Once I have my shake, I am full for hours! :-) My favorite is the Chocolate Vegan Shakeology.

Ever since I started drinking Shakeology in the morning, I have felt energized and ready to take on the day. Overall, I feel better and my skin has improved. I’ve been drinking it pretty consistently since November, except for a few days during the holidays. I haven’t really lost any weight from it, but that’s because I haven’t been trying to use it as a weight loss tool. My other meals haven’t changed much and I still indulge pretty often. I should probably work on that! ;-)

Shakeology Three Day Cleanse Instructions

So, when Brandi challenged me to take on the Shakeology 3-Day Cleanse over Martin Luther King weekend, I figured why not? It was the perfect weekend to do it since we had three full days off and Todd was out of town. I could simply hide in my apartment… just me, my blender, and Shakeology ;-)

The image above outlines the challenge very well, but I’ll go more in detail here, with some personal additions.

  • Breakfast: The most important meal of the day started with green tea followed by Shakeology and I could add a half piece of fruit, if I wanted to. I had oranges on hand, so for the first two days I added half an orange to my morning shake.
  • Snack 1: For my snack, I had a full orange. Looking back, I wish I had more variety of fruit on hand because oranges got old fast.
  • Lunch: Lunch was Shakeology with an option to add of a half piece of fruit. For the first two days, I added fruit. Lunch was followed by green tea.
  • Snack 2: Shakeology.
  • Dinner: A salad with greens, vegetables, 4 ounces of a lean protein (chicken, fish, or tofu), and a low fat dressing. I choose chicken and a light dressing from Trader Joe’s.
  • Random Notes:
    • Lots and lots of water was encouraged throughout the challenge.
    • I could switch my dinner and lunch, if it worked better for my schedule
    • Shakeology included just ice and water
    • No, I could not have coffee
    • Did I mention drinking LOTS of water?

Shakeology Cleanse Side Effects

It’s time to go through my day-to-day diary of how I felt each day.

Day 1 of the Shakeology Cleanse (Saturday)

Day 1 was not too difficult. I woke up and immediately had some green tea and Shakeology. I knew I wouldn’t feel the effects until later in the day because the coffee withdrawal would probably kick in. I usually have one or two cups of coffee a day, first thing in the morning and I knew my body would miss it. As soon as I was done with my lunch time shake, I was out of the house running errands. While out, I stopped at Caribou Coffee and picked up a green tea for the road. It wasn’t until I arrived home in the late afternoon that I realized how tired I was. For the rest of the day, I was parked in front of the TV and had an early bedtime.

Day 2 of the Shakeology Cleanse (Sunday)

Day 2 was probably my worst day. First, I went to a the bridal bazaar and there were a ton of yummy looking cupcakes, cakes, and savory dishes for people to sample. I only walked around for about a half an hour before I was too tired to continue. Plus, the temptation of the sugary dishes was too much. I went home, had another shake, and was back out off to the theater. While the theater was really fun, I was so exhausted. It felt like there was a cloud around me and all I wanted to do was sleep! This was also the day I was overly emotional. Once I got home, I turned on Biggest Loser (I had it saved on DVR) and I cried a few times watching people weigh-in, which is NOT like me. Clearly, I needed to put myself to bed! Was the cleanse over yet?!

Day 3 of the Shakeology Cleanse (Monday)

On Day 3, I was excited because it was the last day (woo-hoo!). I knew that in the morning, I could eat like normal again. Day 3 was the only day that I did not have fruit with my breakfast and lunch shakes, but I did have the morning fruit snack. It was also the day that I switched my dinner salad with my Shakeology lunch. I met Todd’s mom out at Aladdin‘s in Crocker Park for lunch and ordered a gigantic salad with chicken and a green tea. It was delicious, but I started to feel a slight headache come on. Later, in the afternoon, I met my friend Sarah for coffee/tea (green tea for me!) and came home with a huge headache. The entire night, the headache that I was fighting all day was in full force and I could barely sleep. In the morning, I took some Excedrin to relieve the pain.

Recovery Day

On Tuesday, I felt like I was on a cloud and in recovery. To be honest, I thought that I would eat everything in sight but that simply wasn’t the case. I woke up, had some Shakeology (with peanut butter) and made myself a healthy salad for lunch. I did this without even thinking. I think the Shakeology challenge cleansed my mind by hitting the mental reset button for healthy living. I fought my headache all day, but eventually it went away.

Shakeology Three Day Cleanse Results

For this challenge, I weighed myself every day, first thing in the morning before eating anything.

Morning of Day 2: - 2.8 lbs

Morning of Day 3:- 1 lb

Morning After Challenge:- 0.8 lb

TOTAL LOST: 4.6 lbs

Shakeology Cleanse Review

All in all, I’m happy I did the challenge! I loved the results, even though I’m sure I’ll gain the weight back. But, you never know.

In my opinion, it was more of a mental cleanse. It was about realizing that I could follow a strict diet and cut out the crap. Honestly, I’m someone who is skeptical of cleanses and I still am. I believe that your body naturally cleanses itself, which I still believe to be true. In this case, it mentally cleansed me of food clutter in my life. This cleanse refocused my inner workings of healthy living and proved that I could do anything I put my mind to.

What do you think? Have you ever completed the Shakeology 3-Day Cleanse or another type of cleanse?

xo,

Julie

I’ve been thinking about doing a cleanse before our trip in March. This sounds like it was doable…not exactly fun, but you’re still eating a decent amount of food. I’ll have to check it out!

I felt so bad for you at the Bridal Show while I was stuffing myself with wedding cake!! Um, I think I’m the one who needs a cleanse – hello, wedding dress!

I agree, seems like most cleanses end up testing your willpower as opposed to your body. You go, girl! I’ll have to keep this one in mind, thanks for sharing!

I am not a cleanse type of girl. I give everyone else credit, though – it’s not easy!!!!

I have been curious about Shakeology in general, maybe not a cleanse, but working a shake into my diet.

As a Beachbody Coach and drinker of Shakeology for over a year now, I was so thrilled to see this post, Julie! I am the biggest advocate of Shakeology, and drink it every morning as my breakfast. Actually… I’m enjoying a banana, strawberry, almond milk, PB2 + Chocolate Shakeology mix now, and it’s just delicious. ;)

It’s helped me so much with my weight loss journey, and just in feeling more energetic, happier, and stronger in general. I’ve nixed my caffeine habit completely and my chocolate cravings have noticeably lessened.

I’ve also noticed the longer you are taking it, the better you feel. I’ve heard your body regenerates cells based on what you eat every 90 days or so, so this has truly helped me to “regenerate” some awesomeness as time has gone on. It’s just jam-packed with some amazing nutrition.

I’ve always wanted to try a Shakeology “cleanse” but actually never have! I may try it out though after reading this post! Let me know if you’d like any further info or maybe some fun Shakeology recipes to try out – I have about a billion. ;)

Interesting. If I ever did this I would have to do it on a weekend when I had nothing scheduled. I could guarantee the caffeine headaches, lethargy and grumpiness. :)

My favorite was “My friends are starting to look like pizza” and then I pictured myself wearing a pizza outfit. I love you.

Thanks for sharing your results and thoughts! I’ve neen contemplating on trying this cleanse as I’ve just started drinking Shakeology the last couple of weeks. I’m going to start the cleanse tomorrow and am anxious to see if I get great results as you did. I definitely can tell a difference in my cravings since starting Shakeology. I don’t crave snacks as much as I used to and if I use it as a meal replacement, it keeps me full!

I am currently on the end of day 1 of the Shakeology 3-day cleanse. I didn’t think it was too bad at all, but I don’t think I would be able to do it over a weekend. Too many temptations! I prefer to do it on workdays so I stay busy and don’t really realize I’m eating less! Looks like you had great success and hopefully I do too!

If you want a true reset – try the BB 21 day ultimate reset. It changed my life and my body. I do shakeology now and I plan to try the mini cleanse above. I do most of this already. Thanks for sharing in such detail. I enjoyed it.

Hi,
I have recently went on shakeology. I experience the same “side-effects” as you did. My daily food menu is about as much food as the cleanse menu, only I limit myself to it everyday. Hopefully, I will get more energy and see some results soon.
