Wearing Design Week: Make Mine a Mojito

Hello readers!

The next blog design I would like to feature is none other than Make Mine a Mojito!

Mojito Maven’s blog is fun, fresh, limely, and minty. Seriously folks, when I visit I seriously smell mint. Maybe I’m hallucinating? Not only is her design capivatingly colorful and yummy but her posts are as well. If you haven’t yet befriended her blog, you must stop by.

Here, in her own words, is Mojito Maven discussing her design:

Well, as most people can probably guess, the mojito is my favorite cocktail. So it was only natural to name my blog after it. Because I wanted my blog to be a collection of random stories from my life, I decided to play with the mojito theme and create the tag line, ‘stories of my life muddled together with rum, lime, and mint.’ Also, I wanted to have some amount of anonymity, so I came up with Mojito Maven as a blog penname, complete with the lime slice icon.

Every time I drink a mojito, I am instantly transported to a cabana on a beach watching the tide come and go along the sand.

I wanted my blog to not only reflect this feeling, but also reflect me.

In terms of the actual design, I love fun, vibrant colors (specifically blue and green) so that was also a ‘must have’ when designing my blog. I did not think a graphic design of a mojito could accurately capture the emotion I was going for nor do the mojito justice. Instead, I found ten photos on Flickr that showed different variations of the mojito. I put them together on a mosaic and had the text lain on top of it.

Overall, I am thrilled with how my blog design turned out.

The best advice I could give to someone trying to design a blog would be to have fun. The blog is meant to be a reflection of YOU.

Thank you Mojito Maven! I couldn’t agree more. Blog designs need to reflect the person you are. For example, if you wore an outfit you weren’t comfortable in, how do you expect to come across confident? It’s important to love your own design. Period.
