Project Runway (Spoilers!)

*Warning: If you haven’t seen the Project Runway finale, stop reading! Spoilers ahead!*

It’s time to discuss the shenanigan’s that happened on this season of Project Runway. I first must say that I didn’t like this season as much as previous seasons. That says a lot coming from an avid Project Runway fan. Where was the “fierceness”? Where was the Santino? Where was the drama? Yes, I do realize that Irina caused a ton of drama but I think the show focused on it so much because they had nothing else. Even the challenges bored me (yawn). One of their challenges was to make an outfit with inspiration from a popular city… um, yawn! Very much first season material. Where was the pizazz? Where was the funk?

What especially bothered me this time around, was that not one of them had a very distinct style. Yes, we know that Carol Hannah always makes dresses (and yes, they are cute). But, if I were to see one of her dresses hanging up at a store, I wouldn’t be able to say, “That’s a Carol Hannah dress.” This is hard for me to admit because out of all of them, I think Carol Hannah is my favorite. Whether or not she is more talented than Irina, I’m not sure. But I hated that Irina won because she is “meana-Irina.” The other contestant, Althea was okay too and definitely better than Irina.

Moving on.

Now that you know what I didn’t like, now it’s time to tell you what I did like and found via the Internets.

First, did you know that Carol Hannah has a blog? I just found it recently and it makes me smile. It’s so light-hearted and sweet just like her. Also, check out her Etsy shop! The items are a little out of my price range, but very cute anyways.

The other thing I loved about this season was the Models of the Runway show. I know many people who didn’t watch it, but I loved seeing the behind the scenes footage of the models lives. While watching, I became a huge fan of Kalyn Hemphill. She’s also multi-talented and this girl can sing! Check it out:

What did you all think of Project Runway, Season 6? Who’s excited for the January 14th premier of Season 7? I am!

xx,

Julie

P.S. Also, kudos to Lifetime for having full episodes accessible online.

Carol Hannah was my favorite on the show, but I don’t feel she’s as strong a designer as some from previous seasons (Christian, Jillian, Leanne and Korto, just for the two most recent). I’m really hoping Season 7 will be a turn around since it’ll be back in New York. And yes, thank you Lifetime!

I am SO SO ready for next season. I agree that this season was a bit boring, but it didn’t bother me that much.

I was PISSED Irina won. Her clothes were nice, but all that black was just boring…. I think she should have been punished for it – aka not won.

I would have picked Carol Hannah’s as the winner by far – I just thought her clothes were beautiful and showed beautifully.

I agree about no originality with all the designers – but I think that’s a part of the judging now. It seems like the judges now are quick to off anybody who’s a bit different…. which doesn’t exactly inspire creativity.

Let the countdown to next season begin!

I think the discrepancy this season was that CH appealed to the masses by making dresses we would actually want to run out and wear, whereas Irina was much more high-fashion. When it comes down to it, her dresses were more intricate, elaborate designs and better constructed… even though there is not a single one I would want to wear. In past seasons, the well-loved designers were able to produce both mass-marketable RTW designs and also pull out the over the top couture. This year, it was one or the other… and of course us “real people” side with the designer whose clothes we would actually want to wear, while the judges sided with the abstract design, even if most of us had far less interest in the designs to wear.

Are you following her on twitter, too?

I loved her from the beginning just because she’s from my neck of the woods. :-)

Oh, and her clothes are awesome, too.

I didn’t know it was coming back on so soon! That makes me super excited. I agree, there was anyone that really stood on on this season! I’m happy Irina won, because I think she’s really talented.

I completely agree.
I made my husband watch it with me and he really didn’t like “meana-Irina” either!
I was upset that they axed a lot of the designers that thought outside of the box, but I agree with everyone else that Carol Hannah should have won. She made really pretty dresses.

I’m so excited for Season 7!!

This season was so boring. I adored Carol Hannah and truly thought her collection was more inspired than Irina’s, but overall, it was just… a lame season. Huge bummer.

Wish I could afford any of the clothes in her Etsy shop!
