Shopping spree and family love

I just got home from a wonderful weekend in Ohio with my family. Today was so much fun because my mom took me shopping. She and I haven’t been shopping together in ages, so it was a long time coming. She needed clothes desperately so we hit up Old Navy, Express, and Macy’s for her shopping spree. Nothing fit her quite right until we got to Macy’s where she was like a little girl in a candy shop. She found a ton of awesome clothes that fit her just right and were very cute! She even stepped out of her comfort zone a little bit.

I found a couple items too. I picked up two long sleeve shirts at Express and two sweater dresses at, surprisingly, Old Navy. I say “surprisingly” because I can’t remember the last time I bought something there. Usually, their clothes don’t fit me or I can’t find anything I like. However, their sweater dresses were great and hugged my curves perfectly. Here’s my favorite find:

dressThe cowl-neck is perfect! The last thing my mom and I did was look for a pair of boots for me. Ever since The Northerner’s Gap jeans party, I’ve been loving my super skinny jeans from there (who knew that I would love skinny jeans ever?!) and have been coveting some black boots to wear over top of them. So, there I was… looking at every black boot in Macy’s. I decided that I didn’t want a heel and comfort was key. It seemed like none of them fit me in the calves. I was clueless.

In the end, I didn’t find one. Do you have any tips for this? Any awesome brands or type of boot I should try? I obviously need a boot intervention. Maybe I should try booties (like the chick in the dress picture)? I have short legs too so that may cause some issues. Advice is welcome :-)

After shopping, we went home and welcomed Melanie (my sis), Nate (my BIL), and Liam (my nephew) for a family dinner. It’s so nice to have a home cooked meal especially with an 17-month old at the dinner table. Liam is hilarious and every time I see him, he does something new. He makes funny faces, he shows a “one” finger when asked how old he is, he says my name, he says “good girl” to my dog Jade, he gives everyone the sweetest baby kisses known to man, he does somersaults, he loves to read, and there are so many other things. It’s amazing and Melanie and Nate are doing a WONDERFUL job with him. I just hope that I can live up to their parenting skills when I have a little one someday.

Well, it’s almost 10:30 and I’m zonked. I will leave you with another Liam picture. He has his own vacuum and likes to mimic my sister when she cleans the house. It’s good to get him started early, yes? :-)

Peace and love,

Julie

Look at that sweetie pie! I just want to hug him!!!

I have really good luck with the Circa Joan & David brand, especially their boots. Macy’s often runs great deals on them, too.

I’m really excited that Old Navy is starting to go to stuff that I’d actually wear! I got a sweater dress there a few weeks back and wear it at least once a week.

I found some black boots at Kohls for around $30 that I love.

I say hit up your local Marshall’s or TJ Maxx. They have AMAZING boots there. I need my own boot intervention, but the kind that gets me to STOP buying them. Anyway, I’m currently loving Frye and Jessica Simpson for boots- and yes, both stores have them ;)

GL love!

Oh sweater dresses, how I love thee! Even if you’re short you can wear ankle booties – I just bought some on major clearance at DSW and love them! (Just be sure to wear dresses that are above the knee so you don’t look dowdy or shorter). Seriously – your nephew is adorable!

Cute dress!!

And I have had zero luck with boots myself – the only reason I have a pair is because they were $20 and I just guessed – and got lucky.

Such a fun weekend!!! I gotta tell you…I freaking love Old Navy. Pretty much everything I have bought recently is from there…they have some really cute stuff right now! And – I LOVE that sweater dress. I saw it awhile back but didn’t end up buying it, and now it’s gone from my Old Navy!!! So sad. :( Sniffle.

Oh I know how difficult finding the right boots is!! I’m trying to find some flat knee high or calf high black boots… you’d think this is relatively easy but I’ve not found anything that fits yet!!!

Your nephew is too cute!!

Have a great week xx

Love the dress! I tried on a sweater dresses couple last week at Macy’s, but they were so short on me and didn’t fit right.

I am in the hunt for high black boots as well. I’m trying to decide if I want riding boots or ones with heels. I usually go with the Clarks or Naturalizer brands since comfort is key for me and they need to fit around my big calves. Did you check out Zappos?

So, boots are a major issue for me and my 18 inch Calves (yep, my calves are a foot and a half in diameter, and that’s mostly muscle!) Add to that the fact that I’m 5′3″ and you’ve got a recipe for no knee high boots.

I checked online for boots at Macy’s — many of theirs are make for a 6 inch calf (yea, 1/3 the size of mine!).

I ended up finding a pair at DSW that I love and also found some at Famous Footwear that had some stretch in the back. If you got a bigger calf, look for ones that fit an “athletic” calf. Best recommendation is to keep looking and trying on. Also, ladies with a larger calf should check plus size stores like Avenue, because they carry bigger boots.

Good luck!

I love when I get to go home and go shopping with my Mom. I’m heading home for Thanksgiving and can’t wait!

Loving Old Navy lately. They are really stepping it up.

Liam is adorable. I love how little kids get so into cleaning. Too bad it doesn’t (usually) last!
