Today was the first snow fall in the ‘burgh. Hooray? Not too sure how happy I am about it. Call me Scrooge, but I’m not too fond of the snow despite the fact that I was born in Pittsburgh and also lived in Ohio. Either way, I had to get a run in. After bitching and moaning to myself for a good hour that I didn’t have “good cold-weather running clothes”, I finally put my big girl pants on and went out the door sporting my new running shoes…

After my terrible foot experience during the Cherry Blossom, I became a Brooks running shoe kinda gal. Specifically, these are the new and improved Brooks Adrenaline GTS 10. They have so much cushion for my incredibly flat feet. The reason I had to get new shoes was because I left my running shoes in DC when I last visited Dan. When I was driving home, it occurred to me what I left and I almost started balling my eyes out to myself. How could I not run for 2.5 weeks? There’s no way. Especially because my old running shoes (that I wore for the Cherry Blossom) hurt my feet even if I run a mile. The ones in DC still have some mileage left so I plan to swap them back and forth when I finally get them back.
The run was absolutely amazing. There were snow flurries the whole time and I saw no ice (thank goodness!). Within 15 minutes, I was warmed up enough that it didn’t feel like 32 degree weather. The one thing I need to watch out for is my toes. They became a little too cold for my comfort level so I need to find a solution for when I do my longer runs.
Tonight, I met Andrea from Andrea Disaster and Julianne from Hey Julianne for dinner at TGIF’s. I had my usual chicken fajita’s with no sour cream or cheese, extra guac, and Jack Daniel’s sauce on the side. It was yum and I had fun chatting it up with my new found friends. Afterward, we hit up Ann Taylor Loft for their 30% sale. As it turned out, the sale was for full priced items only. Um, yea, as much as I want to pay $70 for a sweater, no thanks. At Target, we had much more luck and I got some of my holiday shopping done!
Earlier today, I realized I had some pictures from Thanksgiving weekend that I didn’t share with you. Shame on me. They aren’t anything special, but here you go anyways. On Wednesday before Thanksgiving, I decided I would bake M&M cookies for the next day (because they are my FAVORITE). Trying to be all cute and such, I decided to attempt a big heart with the initials “J” and “D” inside (for Julie and Dan, duh). Here’s what it looked like before the oven:

Beautiful, yes? Here’s the result:

Beautiful? Not so much. It looks like a blob if you ask me. Normally, I’d say it doesn’t matter what it looks like but how it tastes. NOT in this situation. As I mentioned previously, I used self-rising flour and not all-purpose flour. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE (for all you non-bakers out there, like myself). It was salty. Dan’s family seemed to enjoy the cookies regardless, but I didn’t. Oh well, my pumpkin pie was to die for!
Later in the weekend, Dan surprised me with a light show! It was SO nice! The drive took around 20 minutes and all the lights were dancing and absolutely wonderful. One of my favorites was the apple tree from the Wizard of Oz:

It’s not the best picture in the world, but you get the idea. We had a great time!

Recently, I made an AWESOME purchase for myself. Seriously, people. Normally I don’t like to buy scarfs for more than $10 but when I saw these Infinity Scarves on The Limited website, I knew I had to make an exception. Luckily, I had a coupon (you get one when you sign up for their emails) and they had their Black Friday sale. Right now, they are on sale! These are SO DAMN COMFORTABLE and very stylish (at least I think so!).

Haha, I just took that picture and I look so emo so I make it black and white to complete the effect.
Tomorrow, I have two friends doing very significant things. One of them is my co-worker. She’s running the Nittany Valley Half Marathon. Think good thoughts because it may be very cold up there plus snow is always a possibility. Next, Miss Danica from Chic Runner is running the California International Marathon. Her THIRD marathon in THREE MONTHS. THREE MONTHS, people! Seriously. If for some odd reason you don’t follow her blog, just add her to your reader. Even if you’re not a runner. Trust me – she’s ah-mazing.
Aaaaanyways, it’s time for bed! I’m going shopping (again) tomorrow with my friend because she wants some boots. Then I have work to do all afternoon. I hope you’re Saturday night is lovely!
hugs,
Julie
P.S. Small Angels is still in the running! VOTE!

I’m a big fan of Brooks’ running shoes, too! Most people don’t know what I’m talking about when I say that I only buy that brand, though. I’ve switched my husband over to them, and he swears by them as well. They’re perfect for my feet
And I love the Wizard of Oz apple tree!

Heh, in college in Pittsburgh, I didn’t have cold weather running clothes either (having come from Texas) so I just put on two pairs of pants and two sweatshirts… Ghetto, but it kept me warm!

Did you add salt to the recipe for the cookies? Most cookie recipes call for salt and/or baking powder. Self-rising flour already contains salt and baking powder for the leavening abilities, so you can certainly use self-rising flour in recipes in lieu of all-purpose flour, but you have to omit the addition of the normal salt/leavening agent that the recipe calls for. One cup of self-rising flour contains 1 teaspoon baking powder and 1/4 teaspoon salt, so you add extra of each ingredient as necessary if the recipe calls for more.
